Can you believe it’s been twenty years since the classic teen-flick Clueless was released to the world? Neither can I! The fact that twenty years ago today I was watching this movie in a theater as a seven-year-old (you do the math) has me totally buggin’.
Clueless is one of my favorite movies of all time, as it is not only a funny, satirical look at Beverly Hills culture, it is also the greatest fashion movies of all time. Designer Mona May handed us hot fashion on a platter that many of us had never heard of.

“An A-Whatta?”

The costume design by wardrobe stylist Mona May was way ahead of its time and brought high-end designers to people’s consciousness such as Azzedine Alaia, Fred Segal, and Jean Paul Gaultier matching plaid jackets and skirts. People were introduced to a quirky, colorful and playful yet sexy Californian way of dressing and we all gravitated to it yet are inspired and pulled inspiration from it, even until this day.

Sooo, in conclusion, Clueless is one of the most definitive teen movies of the 1990s, and the greatest fashion movie of our time. Let’s celebrate at a Val party, play suck and blow, or just sit at home and veg while watching Clueless for the 1,000th time this week while reminiscing better times in 1995.

Summer Staple: The Bucket Hat

The Bucket Hat has been a part of our wardrobes since the early 1900s. First worn by Irish fishermen to protect themselves from the rain and sun, they were made popular in the 1960s by fashionable women who turned the bucket hat into a fashion staple.

The bucket saw a resurgence in the 1980s with the East Coast rap and b-boy scene, and continued into the 1990s into the mainstream and became a pop culture staple.

My favorite 1980s and 1990s bucket hat references over the years:

In the Summer of 2014 going into 2015, we’ve seen a complete resurgence of the bucket hat on the fashion runways, campaigns, and most importantly, the streets. ScHoolboy Q has been credited with bringing the bucket hat out of oblivion since rocking it in 2014.

Men’s Fashion Week Spring 2016: Favorite Picks

Ami

Paris-based designer Alexandre Mattiussi has been the main event that I look forward to for the past three Men’s Fashion Weeks. Each season, he has managed to design extremely cool and stylish clothing for the every day guy. Mattiussi’s Parisian touch is always the cherry on top of another successful men’s Spring collection. These are five of my favorite looks from the Ami Spring 2016 runway show.

No. 21

Back in Milan, designer Allesandro Dell’Acqua brought the cool-factor to the runway with these unique but wearable looks. He opened the show with all white looks with elongated tee shirts and shorts, and continued to surprise us with sleeveless wool coat-vests, military green bomber paired with pops of white, black, denim shorts and all-over prints. I get a very Los Angeles grunge-meets-Milanese refinery from this collection. I need each one of these looks in my closet stat!

Port 61

I was pleasantly surprised by the Port 61 looks and enjoyed the mix of laid back style mixed with edgy, artistic patterns and details. Spring will be all about light pastel colors, navy blue and the fisherman jacket is here to stay in an elevated look with ethnic prints and light colors.
